The plan prices are the same on purpose: the plan pays for the site. The difference is what happens at the sale. A store takes card processing and leaves the rest of the work — the player, the paywall, bringing viewers in — to you and your apps. A studio platform takes a larger share because it does that work: the episodes are hosted and streamed, the checkout sits under the video, and the series also has its own page on generatedworlds.com, where viewers can find it through search.
When Shopify is still the answer
- You sell physical merchandise at volume. Shopify's inventory, shipping and tax tools are what a real merch line needs, and a studio site can link to the store.
- You sell downloads rather than streams — a project file, a LUT pack, a course. A store fits a file better than a player does.
- You want the lowest possible take on every sale and are ready to build the video side yourself.
Common questions
Can I sell episodes of a series on Shopify?
Only by adding an app for video or digital access; Shopify does not stream video behind a paywall on its own. It is built to sell products, and it is the best at that.
Why is Generated Worlds' share higher than Shopify's fees?
Shopify's fees cover processing a payment. Generated Worlds' 20% of net revenue covers hosting and streaming the episodes, the checkout inside the player, and a page for the series on generatedworlds.com as well as on your own site. Creators keep 80% after card processing.
