How to build a website for your AI film studio

What a studio site needs to do, what it costs to assemble one from parts, and how to have one running this afternoon.

By The Generated Worlds editors · Published

A studio site needs four things: your episodes playing on the front page, a way to get paid when viewers want more, a way for brands and collaborators to reach you, and your own domain. You can assemble that from a website builder, a video host and a payment tool, or open a studio on Generated Worlds, where the site, hosting, per-episode payments and custom domain come together and it costs nothing until a viewer pays.

Generated Worlds publishes this guide and is one of the options in it. It is written for someone who has not decided yet, which means the other routes are described the way we would want ours described.

Most AI filmmakers start with a link in their bio pointing at a YouTube playlist. That works until the work starts to matter: a brand wants to know who you are, a viewer wants episode nine tonight, and a festival programmer wants one address that shows everything. That address is a studio site.

The steps

  1. Decide what the first screen does

Your best series, playing. Not a logo and a paragraph. Visitors decide in seconds, and a vertical episode that starts on its own is the strongest argument you have.

  2. Put every series one tap away

One poster per series, each opening onto its episodes. A visitor who liked the trailer should reach episode one without searching.

  3. Say who you are

An About page with the studio's story and the people or tools behind it, your cast, and what viewers are saying. This is what turns a viewer into a fan and a brand into a conversation.

  4. Open a door for business

A contact form for brand deals, licensing and collaborations that lands somewhere you will actually read it, not a bare email address that fills with spam.

  5. Take payment where people watch

Keep the first episodes free and let viewers unlock the rest on the same page. Sending them to a separate store at the moment they are hooked loses most of them.

  6. Collect the people who want more

A newsletter sign-up so a new episode or premiere reaches the fans you already have, without depending on an algorithm to show it to them.

  7. Connect your own domain

Buy a domain at any registrar and point it at your site. yourstudio.com on a poster, a pitch deck or a festival submission reads as a studio, not an account.

Two ways to build it

Assembled from parts: a website builder for the pages, a video host for the episodes, and a payment or membership tool for the money. It gives you the most control over design and the most bills — and three dashboards that do not know about each other, so the viewer who paid on one sees a paywall on another.

All in one: a platform built for serialized video that includes the site. On Generated Worlds a studio gets a site at yourname.generatedworlds.com with dozens of templates built for vertical drama, a site editor you click to change, a contact centre, a newsletter, per-episode payments and your own domain. Publishing, hosting and the site are free; Generated Worlds keeps 20% of net revenue when a viewer pays, and pays out through Stripe from $25.

Common questions

Do I need a website if I already post on TikTok and YouTube?

Those platforms own the audience and the recommendation that follows your video. A studio site is the one place where the next thing a viewer sees is your next episode, where they can pay you directly, and where a brand can reach you.

What does a studio site on Generated Worlds cost?

Nothing to open or run. Generated Worlds keeps 20% of net revenue when viewers pay to unlock episodes. Sending newsletters to your subscribers is part of the $39.99/month Studio plan; collecting sign-ups is free.

Can I use my own domain?

Yes. Buy a domain from any registrar, add one DNS record, and your site answers on it. Until then it lives at yourname.generatedworlds.com.

Do I have to set up Stripe or a store?

No. Viewers pay Generated Worlds, and your share is paid out to you through Stripe Connect once it reaches $25.
