No Longer Yours — The Silver Necklace Theft

I froze. They gave me $200 a month for independence, pendants, while Chloe got thousands. I'd saved up an entire semester for that. It was my gift myself for getting into college. That model didn't cost them a single cent. My mother turned to wrap

an arm around Chloe. Stop crying, sweetie. That designer bag you wanted, I'll buy it for you now. As they walked down, Chloe deliberately stomped on the shattered pieces, grinding them into dust with a smug grin. It reminded me of years ago. I'd called her sister in front of her classmates just once. That night, she cut up my favorite stuffed animal.

The excruciating pain in my wrist left me too weak to argue. I knelt on the cold floor for hours, picking up the bloody debris. I couldn't put my broken stars back together. I wiped my eyes and told myself,

Kate, don't be scared. You'll be out of this cage in two days.
