Love, Misfired — Lucas's Scrimmage Invitation

Get your hands off her! She's my girl! The guy I'd loved for years told me to flirt with the rival team's star pitcher. So I handed Ethan a bottle of water between innings. Lucas laughed.

He stopped laughing when Ethan's team crushed his. Before the scrimmage... Ava, aren't you leaving yet? Go where? No way.

Hey, didn't Lucas tell you about tonight's scrimmage? Everyone in the room turned to look at me. Lucas was handsome, smart, and the captain of the baseball team. Girls were always chasing after him.

Why would he tell me? Aren't you two close? I thought he'd definitely ask you to come watch. She wasn't wrong.

Our families had been neighbors for years, and we went to the same high school. I once confessed to Lucas. Do you want to go out with me? Ava, I don't date in high school. Let's wait until college.
