How to become a ReelShort creator

ReelShort, owned by Crazy Maple Studio, has no creator portal and no open upload. The routes in are paid contractor roles on Crazy Maple Studio's careers page — including Writer and AI Storyboard & Video Artist — story ideas sent through the Story Ideas and Submissions topic of its contact form, and contests. The one open now, the OnSolo × ReelShort Global Short Drama Creator Awards, takes entries until 15 October 2026.

Generated Worlds publishes this and is one of the alternatives named near the end, which is a reason to check the claims rather than skip them. Every ReelShort route below was checked on 13 September 2026 against Crazy Maple Studio's own pages or the contest organiser's page, and the figures that could only be found in third-party reporting are marked as reported.

Two very different people search this question. One has a script, or the skills to make one, and wants somebody to pay for the work. The other has a finished series and an audience that already watches them, and wants somewhere that can charge those people for episode four. ReelShort has real routes for the first and none for the second, so the table below is written for the first and the second half of the page for the second.

The routes into ReelShort, and how to apply to each

The contest that is open now

The OnSolo × ReelShort Global Short Drama Creator Awards are the most accessible route on the list, because they need no track record. Entries run from 25 August to 15 October 2026. An entry is a series of at least five episodes, each one to three minutes long in vertical 9:16, and it must be generated entirely with OnSolo, the AI video tool running the awards. The grand prize is $100,000, and the organiser says winners may receive placement on ReelShort or production funding of $10,000 to $50,000.

Read the conditions before you start rendering. "Entirely with OnSolo" rules out a series already made in another tool, and "may receive" placement is a possibility rather than a promise. If you are making something new anyway and like the tool, it is a real prize with a real date. Check the organiser's page for the full rules before entering.

The contractor roles

ReelShort's writing is done by contractors, and the writer role says what the job is: five or more years of experience, and projects of 60 to 80 one-minute episodes. The AI Storyboard & Video Artist role is the one most relevant to an AI filmmaker, since it is paid production work with the same tools. Both are applications to a studio, and both are paid as work: you are paid for the writing or the shots, not a share of how the series performs.

ReelShort does not publish what a season costs or what it pays anyone who works on one. Third-party reporting puts the production budget for a vertical season at roughly $150,000 to $300,000. That is money that funds the whole production, not a fee to its writer, and it is the only size figure we could find.

When ReelShort is the better answer, and it often is

If you have a script or production skills and no audience, ReelShort's routes beat publishing a series yourself anywhere, including here. The studio pays for the work, produces it at a budget no independent creator can match, and puts the result in front of viewers who already pay for episodes. A page that pretended otherwise would not be worth reading.

Know what the arrangement is before you apply. Contract work and commissioned production are paid once, and the series belongs to the studio. That is not a criticism — it pays upfront precisely because it buys the work — but it is the question to settle before the first draft rather than after the season.

When none of these routes is yours

If you have already made the series, already own it, and already have people who watch you on Instagram, TikTok or YouTube, none of the routes above fits. There is no intake for a finished independent season, the job listings hire people rather than buying series, and the open awards want a new series made in one specific tool. Your problem is not getting hired. It is that the audience you already have has no way to pay you.

What to check before choosing a route

• Which do you have — a script, production skills, or a finished series? Almost every disagreement about the right platform is really this question left unasked.
• Do you have an audience already? If yes, a route that pays for your work once is worth less to you than a route that lets that audience pay you.
• Who owns the series afterwards? Contract and commissioned work belong to the studio; publishing under your own name keeps the rights and pays smaller amounts for longer.
• Is the route open, or a window? Contests open and close, and the dates in this guide are the ones checked on 13 September 2026.
• Does a contest require a specific tool? The open awards do, which rules out anything already made elsewhere.
