A young woman is forced into marriage with a comatose mafia don, only to reveal a hidden identity of her own. As she navigates the dangerous world of the crime family that now controls her fate, the central tension lies in what she is concealing and whether her new husband will ever wake to discover it.
No, that is impossible. How are you awake? Damien did not answer her. He came to my side and lifted my injured wrist.
His thumb hovered near the raw skin without touching it. I am sorry. He said quietly. I should have come sooner.
Then he looked at the Ashfords. Who threatened to break my wife's legs? No one spoke. Damien's gaze settled on Jonathan.
Step forward. Jonathan was sweating through his shirt. Mr. Valentino, this is a misunderstanding. I was trying to protect you, deceived, from being deceived.
Protect me? Damien took a file from Leon and threw it at his feet. Tax fraud? Money laundering?
Bribery of port officials, wire transfers through shell companies, trust funds drained for gambling in Las Vegas. He looked at Jonathan for a long, unnerving moment. You have been stealing from your own family for years, Jonathan.
And you thought you could threaten my wife? Jonathan's lips moved, but nothing came out. Damien turned to Leon. Send everything we have to the FBI and the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Freeze every channel we can reach through civil court. By tomorrow morning, I want the Ashford group finished. With that single order, the Ashford family was done. Jonathan's knees buckled.
He lurched forward as if begging might still save him. He made it one step before his eyes rolled back. One side of his mouth sang, and he collapsed onto the floor, convulsing.
