Maybe in her eyes, with all the jewelry, expensive cars, and household staff around I should be just like every other woman, desperate to find a way into the Moretti But that's never been what I've really wanted. Damien's footsteps come from behind.

He glances at us and quickly understands what's happening. I don't want to walk past your mistress' room every day. Elena won't interfere with you. You're Mrs. Moretti.

And you'll be the one to give this family its heirs. He says it like he's negotiating a contract. Then, almost casually, he slips an arm around my waist. Victoria reminds him that their prenup protects her public position as his wife.

It doesn't require her to accept her husband continuing to live with his mistress. Damien says the Rossi family wants an alliance and heirs. Whatever happens privately inside the estate isn't part of the agreement. She's lived here for 10 years. Why should she leave? I look down at his arm around my waist and

gently remove it. His wife handles the alliance and gives the family its heirs. His mistress stays exactly where she's always been. And somehow, he thinks that's fair. Did you ever ask if she wants to stay?

She's not leaving. Victoria, you don't have to worry about me. If I get the chance, I want to leave this place. Even more than you want me gone.
