Sweetest Sin — The Marriage Contract

You saw the flyer for a babysitter, but the truth is I need a mother for Leo. He saw things no child should ever have to see. Ever since then, he hasn't felt safe. He only wants to stay here at the estate. He refuses to go out. But you, you got him to You're the only person he's let in. I'll have my lawyers draft a strict marriage contract.

A marriage contract? Then you can hire me as a permanent babysitter? I said cautiously, my heart racing. I just don't understand. Why marriage? A babysitter is an outsider, Angelica. An employee can be bribed by my enemies.

They can be threatened. They can walk away when things get dangerous. I don't trust employees with my son's life. I need someone bound to this family permanently. Marriage is the only bond strong enough to keep you loyal to this family. Actually, I just need a safe place to stay from the Lone Halves. I swear I won't run.

We don't need to make it legal. I don't trust promises, Angelica. I trust ink and blood. He slid a thick contract across the glass table. Making it legal is for Leo.

I stare at the paper. It wasn't a marriage. It was a golden cage. But it beat ending up in a ditch.
