03:39, the guest of the Andes, Santiago, Chile, 2039. At 03:39 in the morning, every clock in Santiago stopped. It wasn't a blackout, it wasn't an earthquake, there was no explosion. For exactly 11.8 seconds, phones, hospitals, satellites, autonomous

financial servers and even mechanical clocks registered the same time, 03:39:00. Then everything worked again, except one computer. At the Cerro Calán Center for Astronomical Studies, a machine cut off from the internet for seven years began typing on its own.
