A star quarterback treats his relationship like a joke, never expecting the girl he keeps stringing along to finally walk away. When she does, he's forced to chase the love he carelessly threw away and prove he can be the man she deserved all along.
never seen anyone actually cry in public. My childhood friend, that star quarterback, cornered me in the locker room and humiliated me. You're not actually mad, are you? We've known each other since kindergarten. You know how I am. I stared silently at him and everyone who was laughing at me. I was nothing but a toy to amuse them. After that day, I applied to
universities. Tristan completely broke down. You know me better than anyone. Why are you leaving? After P.E., I walked out of the locker room, holding my gear. Tristan Anderson and a group of his friends surrounded me. Joan, play along.
I didn't have time to speak. Something hard hit the back of my head. Quit crying. It was just a prank. We used to mess around all the time when we were kids.
I stared at him silently, my eyes red. Stop looking at me like that. It's creepy. Sloane said yesterday she'd never seen anyone cry in front of the whole campus. We just wanted to make her laugh.
It's not like you got seriously hurt. No real damage, right? No real damage? I looked at my bleeding wrists, my soaked clothes, and felt absurd.
Come on, Joan, stop being so dramatic. Let's be real, no one would even hang out with you if it wasn't for Tristan. Okay, that was a little much. You still down to go to the burger place?
She didn't even glance at me. I pushed myself off the ground. I gave Tristan one last look. That look held every memory since kindergarten.
