She has spent years loving someone who never looked her way, certain that her feelings would always go unanswered. What she does not know is that someone else has been watching her all along, quietly choosing her when no one else did.
My sister Ivy and I grew up with two childhood friends. Tall, hot, straight-A, but they've never looked at me. It's always Ivy, Ivy, Ivy. After they hurt me one too many times,
I asked Ivy, do you have anyone better? So she just went out and bought me a new boyfriend. Sweeter, better, way more loyal. A week before the gala, the four of us grabbed dinner.
So, who do you actually want as your date? I'd loved Ethan for years, but couldn't say it out loud. Let's play rock, paper, scissors. The loser takes Mia to the gala.
Rock, paper, scissors? I'm not... Are you scared of losing? Picking a date like this is so random. What if I lose? Then, he gritted his teeth and played three rounds.
He beat me every single time. I didn't lose. When it was Eakin's turn, Ivy changed the rules so I could win. I only needed to win two out of three.
Ethan won the first round. One more win and I'd lose. He threw the last two rounds, letting me win. Just like that, he became my date. Back then, I thought Ethan threw the game for me.
I felt stupidly happy. But during the whole gala, Ethan just stood in the corner. He spent the entire night on his phone. I built up the courage to ask him to dance.
For the third time. It was Emily. She was the cheer captain and my sister's worst enemy. The three of them surrounded me.
Mia, your dress is so pretty. Did your sister pick it out?
