The girls scattered without another word. Hey, you okay? Did they hurt you? I'm fine! I didn't need you to step in! Jace opened his textbook, yet he could not make out a single word.

This body's poor eyesight infuriated him. The teacher noticed he was distracted. Hazel, stand up and read these two lines of poetry. Annoyed, he stood.

I am the master of my fate. Those around him burst into jeering laughter. Quiet! Let her finish! He suppressed his burning shame.
