After a painful betrayal at the airport, a young woman transforms herself through a dramatic 110-pound weight loss. When she crosses paths with a handsome hockey captain, she must decide whether to trust in love again.
Over the year, my boyfriend Chase was abroad. I went from 200 pounds down to 90 pounds. Today was the day he came back home. I stood at the arrival gate holding a bouquet of flowers, my nerves on edge.
Before Chase left, he'd said, Claire, we'll go public with our relationship when I get back. He stroked the top of my head. Back then, I'd believed him.
We grew older. His attitude toward me grew increasingly strange. At home, he'd eat the meals I cooked and play video games with me. But at school, he acted as if he didn't know me.
Chase, why are you acting so strange? I'm afraid the guys on our ice hockey team will make fun of you. I'm trying to protect I believed him again. So, over this past year, I cut out cake entirely and kept up with running every single day.
The airport announcement blared, and passengers finally streamed out of the I spotted Chase at once. He was tanner than he'd been a year before, rolling his suitcase and wearing the black jacket I'd bought him. I was about to call out to him when a girl in white rushed over and hugged him first.
Chase tilted his head and kissed her easily. I recognized that girl. Her name's Nia. My feet felt nailed to the floor.
What about your chubby childhood friend? Isn't she here to pick you up today? She doesn't know I'm back today. Aren't you always glued to her?
She gets on my nerves. If our parents weren't on good terms, I would have stopped talking to her ages Before I went abroad, I gave her my friend's account and told her it was my new number.
