He stepped closer, and the scent of women's perfume on him became I saw you at the intersection. Who were you with? He was panting, clearly having run all the way back. Was that a guy? Do I know him?

Before he could finish, Mom walked out of the kitchen holding a tray. You're back? Oh, Jackie, do you have a girlfriend now? Jack froze in confusion. Wait, what?

Mom smirked and pointed at his cheek. You still got that girl's lipstick on you. Silence filled the room. Jack's face turned pale. He frantically wiped his panic in his eyes.

It was an accident, Mia. I swear. I was still too wrapped up in my own embarrassment to care. Seeing me turn to leave, Jack panicked. I wasn't messing around.

I know the perfect boyfriend rules by heart. She tripped, and I caught her. That must be when it happened. He trailed off.
