Just then, footsteps echoed from downstairs. Not shuffling, but moving fast, with clear intent.

They're coming up. They might even know we're here. Panic hit me. I leaped onto the vent pipe.

After dropping through the skylight, I frantically reached for the bolt. The steps grew closer. I could hear their excited snarls.

I shoved it hard, and the bolt finally gave. My owner raced up and bolted the door. The instant it closed,

monsters burst around the stairwell corner. So close— they nearly reached the door. We couldn't linger.

We sprinted across the roof. Luckily, the next roof wasn't far, and a plank bridged the gap.

Gritting his teeth, he crawled across bit by bit. Getting down the other side was far easier. We found a motorcycle with keys in it.

The engine roared to life, and we tore out of the complex. Behind us, they gathered at the gate. Aunt Zhang stood in front,

still holding that bean cat toy. The moment our eyes met, my fur instinctively bristled. We didn't dare stop to rest.

We bumped along on the bike for hours. Finally, guided by crackling radio broadcasts, we found a shelter in an abandoned factory. High walls, barbed wire, armed guards.

A long line at the gate. Everyone underwent strict checks and questions. Everything seemed orderly. My owner held me, almost in tears.

'Little Black,' 'we're safe.' Then I was put in a temp pet crate. Checked along with my owner.
